Interview with Céline CHOURLET

Could you please introduce yourself?

My name is Céline Chourlet, and I am a painter. I was born in Seine-et-Marne, in a small village not far from the banks of the Marne called ‘Chamigny’. There, the earth—brown and rugged in winter—turns into a golden wave in summer.

So many memories and feelings of fondness bind me to those years, from which I drew the energy to live, the desire to create, and the drive to transform my life by reinventing it every day. To preserve the essential essence, the timeless nectar. I held my first exhibition at the age of 16.

INTERVIEW

Biography of CÉLINE CHOURLET

Céline Chourlet: An Invitation to Dream and to Colour

Céline Chourlet, a contemporary, self-taught French painter, was born in Chamigny, in Seine-et-Marne. Her artistic world has its roots in her childhood memories, when she discovered, in her father’s garden, the magic of organic forms and the brilliance of vivid colours. These elements would become the cornerstones of her artistic expression.

At the age of 18, Céline left the Parisian countryside to settle in the Var, between land and sea, where she painted her first canvases. These Mediterranean landscapes, dotted with flower-filled gardens and dazzling light, have had a profound influence on her style.

A Journey Through Brittany, Paris and the International Arena

In 1994, Céline Chourlet opened her first gallery in Pont-Aven, in Brittany, a source of inspiration for many artists. This initial success led her to open further venues: two galleries on the prestigious Place des Vosges in Paris, a gallery in Vence, and another in Luxembourg, situated opposite the Grand Ducal Palace.

Her work has resonated beyond France’s borders, with exhibitions in Japan, the United States, Switzerland and several other countries.

ORIGINAL SCULPTURES

MARCEL LE CHAT’S ORIGINAL SCULPTURES

Created in 2014 by Céline Chourlet, Marcel le Chat is an original resin sculpture. Available in seven designs of various sizes and shapes, this irresistibly charming feline is hand-painted and finished with a varnish, embodying the artist’s poetic world.

‘Marcel le Chat is a good friend; I created him with my own hands. He immediately won me over and surprised me – stroking his back with my paintbrushes is what I love. I love inventing a life for him, telling a little story, and giving free rein to my imagination and poetry.’

A dream life, a kaleidoscope of cherished memories

Céline Chourlet draws inspiration from Mediterranean landscapes and her childhood as a gardener’s daughter to create a dreamlike world. She paints an idyllic life, blending sun-drenched terraces, seasides and lush gardens, inviting everyone to escape.

‘My paintings are the novels of my life – the ones I’ll never have the time, the inclination or the talent to write...’
